  1. Good point, but then.. they didn't make landrovers leak proof in the factory either...
  2. It was a few years ago now so I cannot remember how much it cost, but no it wasn't a lot ( I was a student at the time and quite poor and probably mad for running a Landy but loved it!) Gasket set is cheap, and valves were not expensive either if I remember right so couldnt have been much.. It did take time though, grinding in the new valves/seats ? i think thats what I did anyway But it was all very easy and simple to do at home, just messy with the oil and time consuming, But I believe I got it all done within a few days (of course between studying ahem!)
  3. I had to rebuild the head on mine, nothing major but was beginning to leak oil into the big bang chamber making lots of nice smoke I think otherwise they are fairly bullet proof... I ran mine for 4-5 years with no major hassle's other than routine maintenance. Just the head gasket needed doing in the end but it hadn;t really blown.. was just ...old
  4. I've just been on the magical money reduction site that is Ebay and saw this... Item number: 270261089064 Do these actually work? what do they actually do? What would it actually do if I was to put one in my 2.5n/a ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  5. My old series 3 2.25 Petrol was brilliant. Just keep them in tune and they run and run and run and run. Make sure that the one you go for can run on unleaded. Not a problem if it doesn't as you can either fit hardened seats or fit a device which does something magic to the unleaded and makes it run fine without tinkering with the engine bits! Worked on my one for over 4 years with no problems experienced. Typically off road they don't like water (I found that it just drown the distributer and killed the engine, but after a few minutes it always fired up again. Mine towed my Brothers Range Rover about a fair bit (It was never fast but it managed it witout too much bother) My MPG was around 23-30 (30 on a really good run, with no hills and a wind up the rear) but I kept mine in tune on averaged achieved about 26MPG I changed the old oil bath filter to a K&N one and fitted a newer weber Carb (whether this is still a good idea I don't know) but i think it helped with the performance and MPG. I did have to have a few Weber Carbs fitted though, it kept failing its MOT on emissions every few years....(might just have been the dodgy garage I took it to though!) Anyway, I coud go on and on ..
  6. How much does that cost? I looked into it for the back of my 90, but one of those jobs I've not gotten round to yet!
  7. Theres a few good links in that very helpful! I'm not sure if this forum is healthy I'm spending more money on good suggestions everytime I log in! Nice thunderstorm outside though! Cheeers
  8. Thats well worth knowing, thanks for that post!! I was looking on the VMP website at fuse blocks earlier. I think I am definately going to refurbish that part of the wiring as it doesn't cost a lot and saves a lot of headache. ( and it would be good to know what fuse does what!) Cheers = ]
  9. Thanks Mo, will do, it was the wibbly wobbly thread that made me consider and ultimately decide that it is an upgrade at somepoint i would like to do, all I need now is another months wages and for something to come up on ebay! then I will be Pm'ing you and others trying to get it all wired up and working. Worth it though I am sure ( no more dodgy fuel lights! Bliss) Cheers chap
  10. I have no probs with Lucas, or who ever makes the bits and bobs.. just as long as the work!
  11. I'm hoping today will be better, but i'm meant to be having a BBQ... where's the sunshine! Anyway i'm a positive person I'm sure it'll be hunky dory! Cheers for the link! Definately a worthy upgrade i think. .. especially if I get myself one of those nice TD5 dash/clock sets I can see me rewiring the whole vehicle before long! Cheers Mo!
  12. Hi 110 USA, When the rain stops I'll nip out and take some pics of mine. My 90 used to be a petrol but had a professionally installed 2.5n/a with power steering added on too. As far as I know its all in the right place with all the right bits in the right places. I fully trust the professional who put it in (Mark Peacock Landrovers) which he did before I owned it Next conversion will be to a 200 or 300 tdi .. one day
  13. I'm hoping to not go that deep! But point taken, I noticed when putting them in that the grommet on the rear of the lamp does not provide any kind of effective seal> At somepoint the whole headlight bowl unit will need replacing in mine as the current one is pretty knackered! I just hope that they adjust as at the moment my beams are way too high They look good though!
  14. I was thinking last night about swapping all the old glass tube type fuses to modern spade plug in ones but I don't know how difficult that is? Has anyone done this already? Cheers
  15. Its been one of those days and not just because of the rain! I started out to change the headlights on my 90 from sealed beams to crystal halogen ones. First hurdle was trying to remove rusted screws from the retainer ring but manged it in the end and eventually got both lights in, however.. I need to adjust them as they are badly out, does anyone know how to do this at home?? I then went out to the shops still raining..... and on my way home the wipers just stop working! seems I have a dodgy fuse that has blown but it is shorting out somewhere... Also.. I discovered that my reversing light and front passenger sidelight have also stopped working, I'm hoping its just the bulbs! Ahhhhh!!
  16. I did exactly the same, bought some nice crystal halogen headlights to replace the old sealed beam units but when they arived this morning NO Bulbs! despite the bloke on ebay advertising that the price included bulbs! tut tut
  17. perhaps some oil getting into the cylinders? On my old Series 3, if I had to wait at junctions and then pulled away I left behind a huge cloud of smoke but under normal driving everything was fine. To fix it I took the head off and fitted a new gasket as in this instance it had just started to go and was letting oil get into the combustion chamber and.. puff ... smokey and the landy was travelling around choking people.. oops.. . Seemed to solve the problem though. Not sure if its the same for you though?
  18. I'm very tempted but have spent far toooo much this month on Ebay.. ... I should never have time off work again, it costs too much!
  19. I have an odd noise in my 90 a nice .. but very annoying squeak. Mine though is not due to the engine but a loose door mirror bolt i believe or at least something along those lines. Is it definately the engine not the transmission....prop/wheel bearings ?
  20. I'm looking to replace the middle seat in my 90 next. Just looking for recommended Cubby Boxes and price's, as annoyingly some websites dont put prices on with their products ! Grr I'd prefer something a bit different to the standard issue Cubby box but if others cost toooooo much than thats what it would have to be Thanks
  21. Another vote for the General Grabbers, I've still got some of the original AT's from my old series 3 now on my 90. Brilliant on road and enough grip off road for what I do. Weirdly though I did get 2 punctures in mine = [
  22. Its really difficult to price second hand landrovers with all the mods etc .. Plus this one seems to have gender issues.. (read the bit about MPG carefully...) I'd only probably offer £2.500 to £3K Tops.. but then thats me ... someone who really wants a V8 might offer more... someone who loves their 300Tdi or TD5 might offer something different.. I'm not an expect at all... but as no one else has posted I thought i'd start.. Now who'll give me £4k .....
  23. Yeah I was trying to visualise what the angel eyes would like like but I couldn't help thinking it was a bit ... 'Gary boyish' (no offence to anyone that actually has them) Just makes me think of Huge spoilers and lowered suspension.. not what you need or want on a landy. I've seen some with a pilot light? is this a second sidelight or something? I think Paddock does them with or without .. . but there were no pics when I last looked. would they be wired in as well as the existing sidelights or instead of anyone know?
  24. I've seen E-marked Crystal lights on E-bay at £22.99 + 3.99 P+P If the link doesn't work the seller is called ... boltonbits =] hope it helps, thinking of changing mine soon, I've seen some random 'angel eye' headlights for the landrover but they are not E-marked though the seller says they will still pass the MOT! Hmmmm http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=019
