need4speed
So as advised I took all the cruise-control junk off the side of the plenum as it was going to get in the way of intake hose/AFM housing. Can someone maybe show me some pics of the simplest possible Throttle cable / linkage using least amount of parts?
Bowie69
Which side does the throttle cable run from, up behind the plenum or towards the inner wing?
need4speed
It never had a cable fitted.
need4speed
I will try and post some pics later of what I removed and what I'm left with
Bowie69
Cool, was hunting for a pic of mine, but not got one, will try and grab one soon.
FridgeFreezer
Also varies by plenum type I believe.
need4speed
Got into the garage tonight and got some pics.
need4speed
And removed linkage
FridgeFreezer
Does this help any? I used Defender 50th Anniversary throttle cable, part number SBB104100.
need4speed
Excellent john. That setup looks a fair bit "shorter" than my setup.
FridgeFreezer
Just be careful that the 3.9 plumbing is different and might foul the bracket. I suspect the 50th cable has enough adjustment for most things though.
need4speed
So had a look at the bracket that holds the linkage/cruise gubbins and reckoned I could make it shorter so it wouldn't foul the intake hose/afm housing. So whipped out the trusty dremel to produce
need4speed
Brownie points to whoever tells me how I've now screwed the whole thing......
paintman
Where's the bit with the hole that holds the outer cable of the accelerator cable so when you put your foot down the inner cable pulls the throttle open?
need4speed
Yep. Kudos to that man......
need4speed
This bit right. Yes I know, I know.....
paintman
Can't you shorten the bit you've cut off & weld it back onto the bit that's left so it looks like the one in FF's pic?
need4speed
Not sure if that's doable. I will have a look. It might not shorten it enough for what I need. Here is a pic of my problem.
paintman
Can you reshape it so it puts the cable hole higher to clear the intake hose or do you need the kickdown cable? Take it there's no chance of the hose from the plenum going forward?
need4speed
Not sure about forward. I could go down and then back up towards air bin, but then I'm getting very close to the exhaust manifold..
paintman
Would there be any reason why the plenum to AFM hose can't point forwards with the air cleaner in front of the AFM pointing towards the front of the vehicle ala RRC & P38? Or to stay with what you've got you could try fitting the plenum & hoses etc then making up a bracket for the throttle cable to go over the top of the hose like that in FFs pic - if that would be feasible welding it to the stub where you've cut the not required stuff off. According to your build thread you're using a manual box so the kickdown cable isn't required. Edited February 7, 2017 by paintman
need4speed
It took me a bloody age to find a genuine v8 air bin. Bet your ass I'm gonna use it lol. Im just curious as to whether there are off-the-shelf parts I could use. For example here is niges set up. If you look you can see that the throttle linkage doesn't protrude past the plenum body. That would be exactly what I need.
paintman
That's the 3.5EFi flapper linkage - I'll have a look at my RRC in the morning when it's light to confirm. Don't have a camera on my phone so I can't do a pic. The first plenum pic in this thread looks the same :
need4speed
Aha! That would explain it. So next question is will a flapper linkage fit my plenum do you think??
paintman
Don't know. Looks like Nige has fitted one to a 4.5 plenum though. Wonder if the basic threaded holes for mounting the linkages are the same in all the plenums?
