Retroanaconda
Either type of ATF will be fine Likewise brake fluid, DOT 3 or DOT 4 will both cause no problems.
Bowie69
Fluids are generally backwards compatible, so while an original manual may specify Dexron 2, 3 or 4 or even 5 should actually be fine. A couple of exceptions are GL4 and GL5 EP oils, for the older gearboxes you do want GL4 to protect the bronze bits. Brake fluid - DoT 5 is silicon, you don't want to mix this with 3 or 4, but will work fine in a system designed for 3 or
Mo Murphy
Trouble with Dot 5 is it rots rubber, not so good for seals. Mo
