jordan_meakin
Should prop shafts have rotational play? I don't mean the transmission, just the prop shaft specifically between the two parts. Thanks
AV8R
From the LR Workshop Manual: "A total of .004" (0,1mm) of circumferential movement, measured on the outside diameter of the splines, should not be exceeded. If wear beyond this limit has taken place, a new propeller shaft complete must be fitted." Mind to wash the parts before measuring as grease will hide a lot of play easily. Cornish Rattler
Or grease it up and check again
jordan_meakin
Mine definitely has more than that. Probably a good 5-7mm!
Cornish Rattler
Sounds like its worn then and needs replacing A.S.A.P.
jordan_meakin
Not quite sure what's happened to it. Had it off a few months ago to replace UJ's and it wasn't like that. Just started noticing a metallic clonk. Weird, I'm a real Sunday driver so it's not like it gets real hammering.
secondjeremy
When they get slack its possible to move the splined part up and down. Grease can mask the wear for a while.
