simonpelly
Hi Folks, Firstly, Happy New Year all. Another year of Defender fun awaits. Looking for confirmation of the W connector on the alternator. Currently hooking up to a rev counter that is being fitted. Defender 300Tdi 1997 Wanted to double check since was not expecting to see any other wire connected to this. The wire seems to connect to a "black box" on the other side of the alternator. Many Thanks, Simon...
ianmayco68
Not sure but was told by someone that the black box is to stop interference with the radio and the wire was an earth , if I’m wrong someone will be along to put you wright . just looked at second photo you’ve got 2 so might be totally wrong. cheers Ian
Ex Member
Yes, that is why there is a "W" on the case next to it. Someone has hooked the suppressor to the wrong connector.
dailysleaze
The wires in that photo are in the factory location. There are 2 suppressors and they wire in a cross pattern. The white/slate wire spade connector to the W terminal connects to the EGR ECU. You can remove that if you have removed your EGR.
simonpelly
Hi Folks, Thanks for all the help. Finished fitting the rev counter and it works a treat. Only needed a tweak to the dip switches on the rear of the rev counter for calibration. Simon...
