Defender
Quick question: If I want to put a V8 into a 300tdi Defender is the Short/Stumpy R380 the best route to go gearbox wise please?
Retroanaconda
You can't use the stumpy R380 - that bellhousing pattern only fits the 4-cylinder engines (e.g. 200Tdi/300Tdi). If you want to use an R380 you'll need one with a V8 bellhousing and input shaft.
Boris113
I'm slowly accumulating parts to do the same, if you want to use a V8 spec R380 you need the one from a D1 or better yet a D2, the P38 version is very different.

Defender
Ok thanks for the help. Just to add another question what about the stumpy R380 with an LT77 to V8 conversion ring........ Will this be too short? I already have these components as they were bought for a 101 conversion but I sold the 101 before I did it. So really just trying to determine if I can reuse what I have or if I'm just making things difficult for my self. It would be great if I don't have to source more components.
