simonpelly
Hi Folks, Trust folk have had a good Christmas break. Apologies if this is a numpty question π Just getting allowed back in the garage and looking to refit the exhaust manifold back on our 300Tdi Order some replacement M10 flange nuts -Β FX110047L However, they do not thread onto the studs. They take about 5 turns and then the last 2 threads do not engage. Taken some images below. The mating side has round threads but on the outside it's more oblong. Is this expected? Not wishing to "force" them onto the studs if the nuts are badly made. All seven of them are like this π Thanks in advance for any guidance. Simon... Retroanaconda
Itβs by design. A form of locking nut I believe, to stop them rattling loose.Β
Mo Murphy
They are made like that to stop them loosening Simon, they are correct π Mo
simonpelly
Hi Folks, Thanks for the really quick responses. I'll continue the refit then. Prefer to check than getting heavy handed with the wrench! Thanks again. Simon...
western
Self locking nuts, I used some on my manifold refit during my engine rebuild a while ago.Β
simonpelly
Hi Folks, Next "dumb" question. About to refit the exhaust to the exhaust manifold. Got a new gasket. However, trying to decide which way to fit it. There is a stamped out ridge. Should the ridge protrude down into the exhaust or up into the manifold?Β In the meantime - hope you all have a Happy New Year. Thanks again, Simon... P.S. Have noted to myself to take more images on my phone during tear downs in future...
western
Don't think it matters as it will form a seal when the studs/nuts are tightened.
