Mating a P38 gearbox (that came with the M51) to a Rover v8 4.0

Guys, is this possible? straight fit? or am I looking at a ton of mods before that could work? I have both vehicles available. The 2-door (former 3.5 v8, double carbs) is the build. Breaking up the P38 for parts

If the gearbox is a ZF24 it’s ecu controlled and runs canbus system so hugely tricky to get to work outside donor vehicle

The early P38 doesn't use CANbus, but you'll still need the ECU and all the inputs it expects (including from the diesel engine) to get the box to work properly.

At the engine side, there is a different torque converter, though you might be able to reuse the one from the V8 along with the bellhousing. At the rear, the transfer box of the P38 sits on the other side, not sure the bolting pattern and output shaft are compatible with the older transfer box. 

Certainly not a straight fit.

Use bellhousing and gears from 4hp24e and gearbox housing and output shaft (and also output housing) from 4hp22.

In this way you end up with hydraulic controlled 4hp24.

 

Edit: uhm.... I was dreaming that you wanted to fit the ZF together with the M51!
