I have a cheap swivel vice with no quick release, jaws that keep falling off and is not quite big enough Looking at Ebay a 36 looks like a bit of a sweet spot on the size/cost ratio. I have seen some 114's for sale though...
CwazyWabbit
Would I be evil to tell you that 114's are lovely?
fmmv
I bought a 114 off ebay for £26, only lightly used and in quite good shape, even the handle was straight. However you might be better with a 112 or I think a 25, ie 6" jaws, its a lot easier to get soft jaws etc
geoffbeaumont
Totally - teach them to use it before they decide to have a go anyway! I didn't teach my son how to plug the bandsaw in and fit the safety key, so he couldn't use it unsupervised. He figured it out anyway... He was quite right, though, he did know how to use it safely!
