simonpelly Posted May 11, 2023 Share Posted May 11, 2023 Hi Folks, In the process of replacing the rear crank seal on our 300 Tdi Looks like the original seal - the one with a separate gasket. The gasket mostly come off but a stubborn trace of it remains on the block. Any tips for how best to proceed? Plastic scraper is not getting in there enough and I'm hesitate to use a metal blade. Maverik Posted May 12, 2023 Share Posted May 12, 2023 A blade from a stanley knife used with gloves can help, also if its on the steel block you can use a small hammer with a point or the edge of a hammer to tap the stubborn part of gasket and it will displace it and cause it to lift off. smallfry Posted May 12, 2023 Share Posted May 12, 2023 I have a couple wood chisels which are easy to hold and control, but I have taken off the sharp corners so they don't dig in.
