Rear Crank Seal Gasket Removal

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

In the process of replacing the rear crank seal on our 300 Tdi

Looks like the original seal - the one with a separate gasket.

The gasket mostly come off but a stubborn trace of it remains on the block.

Any tips for how best to proceed? Plastic scraper is not getting in there enough and I'm hesitate to use a metal blade.

Thanks,

Simon...

A blade from a stanley knife used with gloves can help, also if its on the steel block you can use a small hammer with a point or the edge of a hammer to tap the stubborn part of gasket and it will displace it and cause it to lift off.

If its on aluminium I just use a a blade as above then rub it back carefully with some scotch bright pad.
