Hawklord
While checking under my 300TDI I noticed some rust around one of the two 'bowls' which are on the underside of the battery tray and after pushing, it broke off completely. Any suggestions on what to do as I don't really want to replace the whole tray if at all possible as the surrounding metal is sound. There is a grid visible in the hole which the battery fixing rod attaches to.
fmmv
Those pieces are there to discourage water from coming in. So maybe make new 'bowls' and weld on? I don't think they are vital provided the battery is clamped down.
western
If the battery is secure, you can do away with those bowls, I took them off my 110 ages ago.

western
I removed them as the batteries I have fitted needed more space thst the original clamp J bolts took up.
Hawklord
Thanks for your replies and have decided to fabricate a patch to cover the hole.
Troll Hunter
Don't forget that in a roll over situation if your batteries are not clamped down the batteries potentially connect with the metal under side of the seat box (battery positive to grounded body work !!!!). You probably don't want to add to your roll over problems by incinerating your Landrover. Or perhaps you do ..... I've just fitted a strip of rubber insulation to the underside of the seat box. western
The J bolts are not removed, it's just the little boxed areas on bottom outside face that are removed
