Wee wiring query

Recommended Posts

Afternoon chaps, Iv finally got my arse in gear and am getting on with the wiring in my 90. I’m currently up to fitting the raptor dash and it’s switches & gauges but Iv come across a plug where someone’s decided to install a couple of scotch type connectors but they ain’t plugged to anything.

My question is what is the purple and white wires their connected to for?IMG_8938.thumb.jpeg.aa6054ae177abc7aa7aecbcd5725f747.jpeg

I think they are for the courtesy light door switches, as those use purple, but I can’t remember if they were purple with a “trace” (stripe) or if anything else had purple - I have a nagging feeling the horn uses purple too.

Cheers, that’s handy to have. I wonder what they’ve been used for 🤔

I believe it's BS au187 standard wiring so crops up on a ton of cars made for a period of a few decades or more, although I'm certain there's a fair bit of deviation from it especially in later years as more and more stuff got bolted in to cars.

The purple-white cable is used in the interior light circuit. It is connected on the 0 volt side of the light, when the switch is in door position.

It doesn’t go directly to the battery / chassis 0v connection. It goes to the 10AS unit that controls those lights.

When a door opens, or a key fob ‘unlock’ is pressed, the lights are turned on. The 10AS then decides when to switch them off. It does this by controlling the voltage on that PW wire.

The lamps go off when ignition is turned on, or after the doors are closed (15secs) or if they are left open, after 15 mins or something.

This all supposes that it is original wiring and someone hasn’t stuck a PW cable in there as a curve ball.
