Hi,

I mate (with more dosh than me) is looking to get a TDV6 range rover sport, something about 12 months old. Any body got any experince with them or know what to look for??

Ta,

Adrian

My parents have one. Not too sure about the 'BMW man' image, but it's a very nice car. Thirstier than their old 300Tdi Discovery, but that might be Mum's lead foot (she claims she doesn't drive it any faster - yeah, right  ). Their's seems to be very well put together. They had one sensor had to be replaced under warranty (coolant temp, IIRC), and the jack is a really feeble scissor jack that Dad replaced with a decent bottle jack after he had to change a puncture - apparently he had to rig an extension bar to turn the jack crank with the weight of the car on it... Apart from that they're really pleased with it.

On paper the TDV6 has similar performance to a 3.9V8 Classic. In practice it's smoother, quieter and handles far better as well. Oh, and it'll return fuel consumption in the upper 20's instead of mid teens...

The TDV8, if you can get your hands on one, supposedly offers significantly more performance for much the same fuel economy :)

  • 1 month later...
I have a RRS TDv8 and previously had a TDv6. Very different cars as the v6 is a "Cruiser" whilst the v8 is a "Bruiser". Excellent cars, but in all honesty, the Disco 3 is a better car by far....

What makes you say that, out of interest?

My parents were originally intending to get a Disco 3 but reached exactly the opposite conclusion (not least because they found the seats in the Disco very uncomfortable, a view I've heard from other people too).

My uncle has just bought a 12 month old TDV8 sport and what a machine, i love it, he has just had it remapped too which has increased all the power figures while economy has increased too.

This is a tool and a half and if i had that sort of money, i know what i would be buying.

have been driven in TJ101s a couple of times and have followed it off road a couple of times too.

They are absolutely incredible off road- i was amazed what one would do to be honest. the electronics are incredible, and it has jstu about every functino you could imagine- the radar controlled cruise control is a godsend.

It is a very very nice car (and perfect for continent bashing and motorway blasting)- wouldn't buy one though- build quality is ridiculously bad for a £40k+ vehicle- the first time i got in i thought i was going to pull the door handle off. Most stealerships seem to have a very very bad name- and most seem to warrant that reputation.

if i had the money and was going to take it seriously off road then it woudl be worth it- otherwise buy a VW phaeton.
