V8 Freak Posted February 9, 2008 Share Posted February 9, 2008 The PAS belts are slightly wider then the alternator ones... western Posted February 10, 2008 Share Posted February 10, 2008 Tony, if you have the 3 groove crank pulley already, the PSP belt fits in the front groove & alternator/water pump belt fits in the rear groove, centre groove is for the air condition pump. pics of my engines 3 groove pulley. Milemarker Type S Posted February 10, 2008 Share Posted February 10, 2008 As above it sounds like your belt is too narrow- Power steering pump one should be 13mm wide. The alternator and water pump belt is a thinner one- about 9 or 10mm wide only. Both the pulleys are available separately but they are unlikey to wear out. I got a belt from Halfrauds that was the right length, used it and it slipped.... Went to a LR spares place, got the right belt, which dare I say was fatter, and once fitted it worked and didn't slip. Since then of course, I've pulled the engine out so can't offer you moving proof of my experiment, but if you want to buy the engine, you can try it for yourself ! Also ran fine for 3 days. My suspicions are that the pulleys are knackered as I let the squeak develop for a couple of weeks! I'm going to replace pulleys this week and see how it goes. Pull the belt, clean the pulleys with a strong solvent and some sandpaper. Make sure the belts are not bottoming. Then it should be fine. Pulleys don't wear out.
