Aragorn
I'm looking at purchasing a disco txb for my defender rebuild but i'm trying to ascertain which will fit and what i should be looking for there are various ones on ebay from 200/300tdi and v8's but i need to know which are compatible with my engine its a 300tdi with an R380 thats currently fitted. Also is there any benefit over certain models of txb, i'm sure ive heard of some with a Q suffix which are stronger or quieter? is there one i should particularly try to get also will range rover ones fit? lastly is it a straight swap, and what should i be looking for with regards to wear, ie mainshaft splines? western
Q suffix means Quiet gears, IIRC any LT230 will fit LT77 or R380 main gearbox, Standard 110 Tdi transfer box is 1.41:1 high ratio LT230T fits both main boxes. more about LT230 TB's here
JST
Thats the link i was about to post up. Dont think a RR one will fit - not the early ones anyway and some Q gears on the D2s didn't have difflock so one to watch.

Orgasmic Farmer
and the wear on the mainshaft spline will only affect your gearbox (but should not really an issue with the R380) and not the transfer box.
