Ringo
Hi all, Does anyone know where I can get a stainless steel fuel tanks from for a series 3 lightweight? Would be helpful if anyone does. Thanks in advance ringo
Bowie69
Never seen them..... I expect you could get an Ali one made up, but expect it to be a LOT of money! Standard steel ones should last 25+ years tbh (both mine have) sof for what... £100ish you can get a new one.... I wouldn't bother with stainless unless there was some specific reason to go down that route.
Porny
Andrew Morris makes stainless steel fuel tanks (01283 734 324 - also makes new Series bulkheads) - nice bloke, but can be a pain to get hold of!! - just leave him a message. Or... I can have tanks made in aluminium if you send me the original. Either method will work out at between £225 and £280 each. Ian
FridgeFreezer
What Bowie said - stock ones last 25 years, more if you actually apply some decent paint to them before fitting (god knows LR don't bother).
Gazzar
Isn't there a potential problem with stainless tanks? Doesn't the non ferrous material react with the sulphur in diesel or something? Or was that galvanised steel? I remember that galv tanks were a bad idea for generators at one time. Probably nothing. Ignore me: not enough caffiene. Still - I'd go with standard tank and apply top quality rust prevention and waxoyl. Also - keep the tank full to prevent condensation. G. Ringo
Chaps thanks for the replies, looks like Ill stick with a standard stock steel one and give it loads of paint. Cheers ringo
david1701
when my tank died it didn't rust thro, the rubber bit in the middle perished and the bottom dropped (she was sitting at this point)
