denviks
hi all. well my good old TD is going to be replaced very soon with a discovery TDI lump ... it wasnt that long ago that i put new glow plugs and a cambelt in the TD but i have no got to the stage where i am using the 110 for longer trips so feel the need to put in a TDI engine to make my life easier and cheaper. i have a question regarding the tranfere box from the discovery 200tdi. what difference will it make to my old 110 to put the discovery transfere box inplace of mine. i have the lt77 gearbox in mine that was replaced 3 years ago with a new ashcrofts box but i beleive that the transfere box didnt get done at the same time. now its not a concern really as it behaves well..... just need to know what the change would be with the discovery one in its place
FridgeFreezer
The gearing will be 15.38% higher with the Disco one. Have a read here.

JimAttrill
Yes, but it will be harder to pull away, especially uphill with any sort of load or trailer. Your clutch will not last for long. So be careful.
dave88sw
you say the clutch wont last long, but by putting engine and transfer from the discovery into the defender you end up with the same gearing as the discovery in the first place, which is a very capable vehicle and popular for those who tow heavy loads. Yes it will be slightly harder to pull away but you dont really notice it in my uncles (200 defender with disco box) or my dads (v8 with disco box). Just my thoughts
Andrew Chua
having personally done this on a Td5, i believe it's worth the money. You get a quieter vehicle and it's more 'car-like' gearing shift. do not need to drag the gears so much at a 1.410 box. If you do lotsa highway, then you can see it's value and appreciate it. Landowner
Taking it up to 2000 revs in each gear the speed will be APROX ! to nearest mph 1st 12 2nd 21 3rd 32 4th 45 5th 57 Thats what I've worked my V8 defender at with santana box and disco 1.22 T/B so yours will be somewhere near that.
