Ian M
im just wondering what to do on my new truck, i was thinking of mounting it on the back, behind the cab to try and get some weight over the rear wheels, but what options of tank are there? i would still like the standard fuel guage to work if possible! what have you done and any pics? ciderman
Im using an LDV 400 Chassiscab tank , Its a nice size , the same width as the 90 chassis so it fits well . Its a nice square size . I had to modify the filler neck and fitted a 2 litre swirl pot inside for those vertical times .
Guest weeble
Jase, What is a "swirl" pot and where can i get one?.
Les Brock
A swirl pot is a small reservoir of a 1 litre(bigger are available), with an in and out, and also with a bleed off at the top of the tank back to the tank. Sometimes they are fed with an electric pump to keep them full, some by gravity This gives a small pot which has a constant pick up of fuel when you sat at a silly angle...most Motorsport places sell them like this http://www.alloyracingfabrications.com/product.php?id=
nytrowrush
Here is a link to some photos of my fuel tank swop, http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd113/n...%20replacement/ When i bought my Bobtail rangie the original tank was in the buck and took up all the space, so have replaced it with this plastic boat fuel tank only cost £30! is 33ltr capacity and has three connections (one pickup and two vents) I have used one of the vents for the fuel return line and the other as a raised breather pipe fitted with a one way valve. This tank also has a large inspection pannel to allow access into the tank (ive filled mine with Fuel tank foam) and also there is a smaller (Red) plate that can be removed to fit a fuel level sensor. I was worried that it tank wouldn't hold enough fuel for a full day of offroading but i've not had any problems yet. all in all i'm well happy with the end result, Gives me plenty of room for moving Rad, batteries, etc into the buck. A good cheep alternative to an ally tank for those on a budget. Chris PS Also had no problems with its MOT last month!
Orgasmic Farmer
For mine I used a tank from a Triumph Spitfire. It is just the right width to fit above the chassis rails, it has a nice wide flange all around it with holes that make fixing it down a doddle, and it was dirt cheap (£4.99). The fuel sender "should" work with the landie gauge but I think mine is duff. Best part though is the bling pop-top fuel filler cap in the middle of the tray You can just about make it out in this pic. Holds only 8 gallons and has a very basic pipe to the bottom pickup. However, I have yet to have a fuel starvation problem....
Eddie
I'm currently building a tray back and am going to use the standard 90 tank.
