series doors for defender 90 challenge truck

You may want to consider military Defender two-piece doors instead of Series ones. The tops are made of aluminum rather than steel (series door tops are steel and seem to rot quickly and come loose). The windows are cut diagonally (rather than vertical) and both sections can be moved, rather than just the rear one as per Series doors. This is quite handy for adjusting/pulling in wing mirrors and also for punch challenges as you can slide the front part back to punch the card if attached to the passenger side grab handle on the end of the dash!

(Just remember to lock the window in the open position as otherwise punches on downslopes can be a PITA if the navvie is out of the vehicle and the window slides shut on the way down!!:rolleyes: )

Dave says look at ebay or ex-mil specialists such as Blanchards, etc. The bottoms can be got cheap from Britpart, not sure about the tops.

which ones to take - is there a differen between series 2a / series 3 etc?

Door stays are different. Series 2 types utilise a tab for a bolt to go through, connected to a rod that extends out from the bulkhead. The Series 3 type uses a system similar to what a Defender uses.

Whichever locks route you go for just make sure you get the strickers to go with them.

And the right doors. Anti burst locks require an extra hole in the door for the lock. Earlier type doors don't have this hole as it's not required for the SII/early SIII standard non-anti burst locks. 20mm hole saw will sort it if you want to fit anti burst locks to early doors.

Oh and there's two type of anti burst locks, those fitted to late SIII where the catch is like a 'hook' and the military type where the catch is like a 'flap'.

thanks - military tops seem the way to go

found the door bottoms at paddocks - they also have some with "anti burts lock" - is that any use?

do i need new door straps or will the series doors work with the defender version?

do i need new door rubber?

Just to clarify the two-piece military doors I was talking about in my post above are the ones fitted to military Defenders, not Series vehicles
