bigblue110
im in the market looking for a td5 110 csw and have heard that earlier td5 engines arent as tunable as later models, something about the ecu being different-word of mouth etc is this some sort of currupt info /chinese wispers so to speak or is this true??im not looking for a 1000bhp just a tweak here n there. does this effect in any way whether you can actually tune the earlier ones and what results you can get? where should i be looking for a decent tuner who will be able to sort me out when i find the desired truck-anyone know of anyone on 'ere that does a little forum discount, credit crunch and all!! cheers andy
101sean
The guys that really know their stuff hang around on here and will be along soon, but I think it's pre 2002 ECUs can't be re-programmed, they need a chip change. Been heaps of posts on this, do a search.
steven Hart
As said above pre 2002's ECU aren't re-mappable but if the ECU has been replace since 2002 it will be the later ECU you can get plug in units which trick the ECU but I believe these aren't as good as a re-map. Most import thing you can do is EGR removal not a massive advantage but worth the money even on a standard map an ally sports intercooler is not a bad idea but not cheap either and you need to keep an eye on oil stains appearing around welds (The welds can split I have had that happen 4 time in 5year and I'm only 1.0 bar). Without remapping or a turbo boost control box you can't really play with the boost much as there is software control which places your engine into a default mode if it records to high and logs an error code. I found that paddocks centre pipes is a good Ideas although you may need to adjust back the Turbo boost slightly for the above reasons (turbo works quicker because less back pressure) TD5 sounds great from out side and if it's anything like mine quieter inside, there are others who make them now and you can get them on ebay. NicTheOrange90
Had my Td5 - TD5Alived!, its a different truck, bags of power and would reccomend to any other TD5 owners. He also put the EGR kit on, and Im saving for th intercooler. With my Disco transfer box, it really drives well and much nicer than before..... Cannot reccomend them enough... http://www.td5alive.com/ Think he also has an ebay presence...

Ian (Porny on here) at IRB is recommended to do both and will offer a discount to forum members. Also Chris, GBMUD, in/near trowbridge has a remapped 110 and he may be open to a test drive Cheers Steve

101sean
Direct replacement but you'll have to put your injector codes in.

Porny
Direct replacement but you'll have to put your injector codes in. Sort of... but not really. If you want to run a flash ecu (post 2002) on a Pre 2002 Td5 then you need to use the correct files!! An EU3 file (and the engine for that matter) is very different to a EU2 engine and file. Although it 'will' physically run - it would be far from ideal. In all honesty I wouldn't bother.... Going back to the remap question... All td5's ECU's can be 'remapped' - it is only the process that is different. Post 2002 (flash) ECU's are done via OBD11 (i.e. the diagnostic socket).... early ECU's (none flash) require a physical chip change on the main ECU board. Both methods will give the same final outcome. Ian
101sean
Knew I should have left to the experts to answer!
Andrew Chua
ECU with the serial number that have letters "NNN" can be flashed via the OBD-II. You can identify this from the sticker on the ECU itself located under the right side seat box. it's the one on the right when leaning over the seat box.
