TheRecklessEngineer
Evening chaps. I have an EFI V8 in a series - went to connect the throttle cable today (from a butchered rangie pedal) and found the standard cable was about 2" too short. Can someone please suggest something that is longer with the same fittings on the ends? James.
FridgeFreezer
What are you doing with it then, mine is a standard RR/Disco EFi cable and is about 2 foot too long
TheRecklessEngineer
Hmmm...odd. Even in a straight line it is too short. It only needs to negotiate around the brake servo. Maybe i'll just order a standard new one and hope it's longer!

andyb
Try http://www.cable-tec.co.uk/ if you get desperate.
TheRecklessEngineer
Thanks chaps. I've ordered a new one - certainly the one I have is a lot shorter than 2m!
LittleBlue88
Whats the chances of the short cable being from a LHD?
muddy
Swap the brake and throttle pedal, that should give you the extra 2"
landmannnn
Thanks chaps. I've ordered a new one - certainly the one I have is a lot shorter than 2m! You have possibly got a carb one, they are shorter. On second thoughts maybe you have a diesel one, do diesels have throttles?
TheRecklessEngineer
Well, the new one arrived this morning.... It isn't quite the right one, but a bit of fettling and it fits ok. Plenty long enough! However, it has a funny sort of spring bit at the pedal end that seems to be to stop the cable/fittings from flexing when the throttle hits an end stop. But when under tension, the cable is so stiff that this spring starts to compress - as a result I never get full throttle. The cable moves fine when not under load. It is part number SB104300. Any suggestions? I'm tempted just to fill the spring housing with epoxy....
FridgeFreezer
I did a very similar thing, think I slotted a length of tube in the end and wedged it in. Bloody stupid design if you ask me as it doesn't seem to do owt particularly useful
TheRecklessEngineer
Excellent. Epoxy it is then. When that's set I'll have 3 pedals! (Although the clutch is suspiciously solid and I haven't dared fill the brake system yet...)

If it is weaker than the throttle return spring then as you rightly say it's a bloody stupid design. Steve
