davidlandy
I have just managed to source myself an 8274 , got it cheap from a mate. It needs some work doing on it to fix the the brake - this was welded up!, but I have unwelded and managed to remove it to find no friction material or bearings in it (i take it there are supposed to be bearings in it) - are these parts readily available, and where do they go ? what size bearings are they? it is also reported to be geared down as it used to be on a recovery truck - but I am unsure which gears would had be changed and how they are different from the standard ones - any ideas how I can tell? I think that it also needs the bush for the other end of the drum too and the little cover plate - so if anyone has any spares laying about that they want to get rid of for cash then let me know. thanks all
western
these links from our tech archive winch section might help http://members.shaw.ca/red90/8274_brake/8274_brake.html http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/8274/8274.htm http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=1522 http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=8336
davidlandy
thanks western theres some good info in there , especially with the brake setup. any views on the gearing?
western
no idea about that, but I would leave it as standard, 8274 is fiarly fast anyway,
ciderman
Better off speaking to Jim or JJ at Gigglepin , They supply everything for the 8274 and their own products are far more superior to the standard Warn parts http://www.gigglepin4x4.net/8274/index8274.htm
davidlandy
I think I will speak to him. he may be able to advise on the gearing as I am keen that if mine has been changed that I can change it back to standard again.
roguevogue
I have never heard of different ratios being available for a standard winch.
davidlandy
thats a good sign then Nick - I must admit that all the gears do at first glance to be the same as the stock stuff. But the guy did say that he had to slow it down as it was on a beaver tail recovery truck and was too fast to drag the cars up on the back. So if he did then I wonder how he did slow it? Bowie69
Smaller motor maybe?
western
probaly added a pulley block so it was used as a double line = half the speed & 2 x the pull.
