Les Henson
I have a full set of 200TDi head bolts here. Not new though, but you are welcome to one or more. I'm in Swindon. Les.
white90
Exeter4x4 store sell individual bolts. I'd get an old socket hammer it on and then weld inside the socket.
disco_al
is it accessible? if so, then why not grind the top off (carefully), then use a stud remover when the head has been removed?
Ex Member
Ummm.... I thought that the head bolts are not to be reused.
Deface
I reused the head bolts when i did the head gasket on mine, dont think the manual says anything about not reusing them and neither does autodata. forestrynick ive got a set of slam sockets for when i round a bolt off, they have sharp edges on the inside of the socket and in theory when you hammer them on the more you turn the more they grip onto the bolt they dont always work but have helped me out in the past, worth buying even if they cant help you this time they will in the future, i got mine from my local motorfactors. p.s. i also have a set of headbolts to spare but i spose newport pagnell isnt worth the either. ethan

white90
What happens when you turn it and meet the cylinder head
Ex Member
Up to five times. That is the 300TDI manual. This thread is about a 200TDI. As I read it, the 200TDI manual says to use new bolts. In addition, it makes a lot of sense considering these engines are known to blow head gaskets.....
white90
Fair point but I have no manual for the 200TDI I like you would not reuse something that can cause so much aggro
ciderman
I have some Irwin reverse twist sockets , Just hammer them on and the more force you use to undo the bolt the tighter they grip . These would be ideal
white90
Good to hear from someone who has these I saw them in Jewsons but didn't want to buy before I had heard they were any good. Thanks
ciderman
They are very good Tony , I have had them for some years now and they are used often and they still grip as when they were new .You can even remove some locking wheel nuts with em . forestrynick
Yeah i was thinking about getting some of those hammer on socket things. I ended up doing similar, filled head down slightly (luckily one with good access) and then hammered a slightly smaller socket onto it. That worked a treat! Thanks all Nick
