nicks90
iv got a defender 1991 front axle (not salisbury.) whats the torque setting need to be at for the pinion flange nut cheers. do you mean that big nut that holds the flange on the nose of the diff that the front prop bolts to? if so, its tarzan yodallingly tight. about 210ft/lbs if i remember correctly. When i first tried undoing one on my 90, i didnt chock the wheels and when i heaved on the breaker bar i almost ran myself over
mmgemini
Really Nick. I don't think so. To pull 210ft/lbs you HAVE to have a 3/4" drive torque wrench at least three if not four foot long. You certainly wouldn't undo that torque with a half inch, even a Snap-On one, normal breaker bar.. I can only say what my book says. mike

Off Road Toad
The pinion nut (or bolt in some cases) has a factory torque range of 70 - 120 lbsft. The lower end of this scale is usually sufficient. Full set-up instructions can be found at kamdiffs The salisbury is in the region of 240lbs (ish) .
