rusty_wingnut
my boost gauge seems to jump about a wee bit when cruising at about 0.5 bar boost (low revs, high gear) But becomes perfectly stable when accelerating or idling when hot. is this simply a case of my gauge is so sensitive it can pick up when the inlet valves open, or I have comrpessor surge and need to investigate further. 300tdi with 2.8TGV turbo and control system, all setup as per TGV settings. Ex Member
Surge will only happen at low rpm and high boost.
SiWhite
Probably a lively needle. Fit an inline restrictor and it'll dampen the spikes.
DaveSIIA
If not ^^^^, then is it sensitive to small changes in throttle setting altering the boost when cruising?
rusty_wingnut
it's only a cheapo Tim gauge. Must just be sensitive, I guess. Don't panic!
Lara
Or you have an exhaust valve burning, worth doing a cylinder leakage test, just in case. Has it just started to happen? Lara
rusty_wingnut
No it has done it since fitment. I have adjusted the tappets and nothing seemed odd, one had a bit of play but nothing major. All adjusted up and she runs quietly.
white90
Tim gauges are clamp the tube till there is just a tiny amount of boost passing this will stop the fluttering, but will still show boost levels. Mine does
rusty_wingnut
it was a freebie
white90
still needs a damper. I paid for mine they are still cheap/cheerful
Aragorn
Sometimes you can get away with using a petrol inline fuel filter in the pipe to act as a buffer/reservoir.
