Never mind the wings or roof or any of that malarky, think all that flash dashing that needs done which, with my specialist expertise, will be done in a shake of a lambs tail!! hehe.

Hello Nic! (Stephen really should keep his computer more secure!!)

So you up for the drive to Peebles then?

Get your finger out and you might even have passed your test by then! A few lessons with old quickdraw and you will be laughing. (just have plenty of tea and he will be fine!)

greeny boy!

Naw, Cause you said WE would manage it and you are as busy as me! and anyway it stops me fartin about trying to do 10 jobs at the same time and gets it finished.

Hmm, yeah I did didnt I!

Not that a Dead Defender and a semi-dead Rangie isnt enough!

However, At least I am not wandering round the country staying in posh hotels and claiming to be working!

One positive is that at least you have a garage floor that you can actually see again!

I was down at the site on Sunday.

The routes are quite veried, with the well graded roads forming the "Green" routes for novices with a handful of very mild off road forays for the adventurous novices (still intended to be non-damaging). Some of the "Green" routes may need to be upgraded to "Red" if the conditions deteriorate as traction will be limited if it gets wet for example.

"Red" routes are more serious, with excursions into the surrounding tree areas that will be challenging and rewarding. Most of these form loops so they can be repeated if you wish.

"Blacks" are definately more challenging yet and we expect some sections will only able to be completed with a lot of winch work If you attempt a "Black", you'd better be prepared to be worked quite hard. As Sandy said, some of these start off very easily, then after lulling you into a false sense, have a sting in the tail that will push you.

Just a reminder, if you are interested and haven't sent in your entry, get a move on as we expect a lot of local entries to be in at the begining of the month and you'd hate it if your "place" went to someone with a Rav4 or a Santa Fe

Number 25 - just got to sort out my head gasket. Don't think it'd survive the run up to the borders, never mind a days off roading. Oh, and take the plow off again - might be time to figure out how to leave the horizontal stays in place so I don't have to drop the petrol tank every time :(

If I really push on I might even get the diff guards fitted for some proper posing. MSnEDIS probably isn't doable though, seeing I've only got this weekend and maybe a couple of evenings.

Thanks guys - it was a good day out. Great views, mix of very easy and quite challenging stages (there did seem to be a bit of overlap between red and black routes...). Dad says he's bringing his Discovery as well next time.

Should have some piccies shortly.

Only had to be rescued once (Dad was driving, so I'll blame him :D ) - I think we could have got out under our own steam, but there was a fair chance we'd have rolled instead so we opted for a tow.

Photos from Wheels in the Woods here - here are one or two highlights. 'Fraid I still haven't got myself a decent camera, but Dad was using a better one, so hopefully I'll have some decent quality shots in a few days.

Spectacular scenery:

So much for a few days...got them off him at Christmas. He actually didn't take many, and they aren't that exciting, but there was a bit of video. Dad gave me it as a 98Mb MPEG, but I've been trying my hand at recompressing it, so it's now a somewhat less lardy 15Mb DivX - click here. It's not that exciting, so if you're on a dialup from the falklands I wouldn't bother :)

If you turn the (rather quiet) sound up, you can clearly hear my engine rattling...if only I'd realised it was the timing gear and not an ancillary bearing :(
