Bumpyride
Gents I have question that has been asked before about jacks, but in browsing the previous answers / suggestions i haven't found a jack that looks of. I current use a 2Ton trolley jack and place under the axle diffs, however as we all know when you start due to its offset position one side jacks up very much quicker than the other thus getting both wheels off the ground is in my opinion a little dangerous, lifting not in the centre means that the jack has an offset loading, i'm worried with my current jack that its all a bit unsteady and one day the jack will fall over. Thus i wanted to buy a better suited jack, by which i mean one with a wider base to give more stability. I've been in screwfix, halfords and they all have similar offerings. The only dragmatically better unit appears to be the £99 professional jack in halfords. Thus being a man thats carefull with his money - i would like to avoid this much expense. Does anybody have any suggestions of better ways to jack / a good reasonably price jack Cheers in advance.
kingrat
I got the Halfraud one in October as it was on offer at half price. My advise would be wait till the sales. Also don't overlook Aldi Netto and Lidl, all frequently do very good for the money tools and maintenance items. Cheers Paul
mmgemini
Be even more careful with your mond Rover breakers {scrappy} and get yourself a Discovery/ Range Rover bottle jack. They are also on flea bay....Generally about a tenner. HTH
Aragorn
i picked up a beasty professional style jack just last week in costco for 70quid. I've seen similar units in my local motorfactors too. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250534155485 Thats one on ebay with a hefty markup. Retroanaconda
Get one wheel off the ground, axle stand that end, and then repeat for the other end. If you only need one wheel raised, just jack that side and put an axle stand underneath, bob's your uncle. Unless I'm missing something? GBMUD
Quite correct, never ever rely on a jack to support a vehicle. Chris
Orange
If you have a look in the Tools and Fabrication section, David Lang (Landrover598) made up a nice little adapter to enable the use of one jack to raise the entire axle equally... I'll see if I can find it. ......Here you go....... Jack Adaptor

ejparrott
my pair from Netto's are far more use than the £45 I bought.... I also like my Hi-Lift and the adaptor to lift the wheel not the car...but yes...always use an axle stand!
