outdoor_ian
The bicycle style locks with a steel cable tend to rattle less and you can usually pass the end through a wheel stud whole.

Stephen337
Mmmm, I had a bicycle lock on my spare for a while. I eventually decided to take it off. I figured that the damage to the door from someone undoing all the bolts and yanking the thing about to break the lock would be more than for a new wheel. I guess lockable nuts would be the best solution.
TravelTed
I agree that lockable wheel nuts are the best to use, it works on the road wheels, but I guess if some one wants that wheel so badly nothing will really work.
bishbosh
Drill one of the studs and put a padlock through it. Or put the spare inside the vehicle.
LandyManLuke
Steel cable bicycle lock on mine, passed through the wheel and the mantec carrier. The tyre stops the mantec coming off the door too. Though if someone wanted to try it'd make a mess.
missingsid
i did think of that and my next thought was to drill a hole through the rim and mounting bracket and use a block lock or similar Hmm not such a good idea as you will be altering the wheel from manufacture (I assume it is used on the road?).
