wellzie
Is it possible to remove the pickup body tub to gain access? If so, is it a massive job? I've seen some good responses to other questions on the forum, so I'm looking forward to some good advice

Les Henson
Loads of work to remove the rear tub though. Roof, back door, sides, detach from seat box, wiring, etc, etc. Is it just acces to weld the top? You can cap over so that you actually weld the sides, and extend the repair far enough to be able to weld where the gap is bigger where you have to weld across. If it's within the tub area, then maybe removing the rear floor might be easier. Les.
wellzie
Good advice guys. Les, I think you may be referring to the van type body, wheras mine is the pickup - but thanks anyway. I'll let you know how I get on wellzie
KKMobile
Not sure if yours will be the same? But on my county when i had to replace rear x member. The guy doing the work asked me to remove the rear floor, This opened up the whole rear of motor exposing all the top of the chassis at the rear. Got to be easier than removing copmplete rear of body??
Aragorn
You'll still have to remove the roof and rear bulkhead panel from the cab, as these attach to the tub. Front edge of the tub also attaches to the seatbox etc as les mentions. Taking the floor out might be the easiest way.
landmannnn
It could be high capacity rear tub.

wellzie
Unfortunately taking the floor out would have still resulted in some access issues due to the awkward location of the repairs. So, I decided to take the plunge and take the tub out - here's the result : It wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be. A few seized-up bolts provided most of the trouble. Although the chassis is in pretty poor repair, its going to be a lot easier to fix now!

landmannnn
Now you've got it that far you might as well take the rest off and drop in a new chassis
