Roof Replacement on my 90

Recommended Posts

Couple of questions i need answered please if i wanted to replace the roof on my Defender 90 to one without a sunroof.

1. How difficult a job is it?

2. How long would it take and is it a two man job?

3. What tools would i need / sealants?

Are there any threads with pictures of this job being done on the site?

Any experienced advice appreciated.

Cheers

James

I have a 90 with Van side's and just interior roof liner in the front.

Its a 2 man job to lift it off/on other than that its pretty straight forward. need I think 10mm spanner/socket there are about 20 odd bolts around the inside rim of the roof that need undoing, then there are some bolts on the under side of the top of the windscreen overlap, they have captive nuts inside the roof, of course you need to remove the roof lining etc and the interior light.

There is a seal pressed into a track on the inside of the front of the roof to seal the windscreen in, I replaced mine when i did the roof as the old one was quite compressed and didn't seal too well.

Its all nuts and bolts and is quite obvious what needs removing and what doesn't. There are seals that run in the top of the side pannels that mate to the roof.

You will have to reomve the real door seal too...

Best thing to do is go have a good look at it, there is very little hidden stuff. 2 of you could easily do it in an afternoon.
