statler
My 2002 TD5 has just failed the MOT on its emmissions. The EGR has been removed and it has had an ECU remap! Any thoughts so I can rectify and return it for a pass? Many thanks
NicTheOrange90
I have a simlar model and year and have larger intercooler, remap, turbo boost and straight through exaust, EGR removed; with 144k on the clock it passed fine last few MOTs. Was it iffy before remap and EGR ? Did you get remap done professionally ? if so what did they say about emmissions? Finally, I dont suppose its a vehicle that does lots of short journeys does it and would benefit from a long workout ?
statler
Hi, it was all done prior to purchase, i've just finished putting the EGR back on. It does do small journeys however! Anymore thoughts as the MOT station recons it was well off the required standard!
western
ditch the EGR & unplug it's ECU, drop some injector cleaner in the tank & go for a long hard drive before going to the retest.

Yup, go dump some of redex's finest injector cleaner into half a tank (overdose it) drive it around for 40min then take it in, also if you have time... get an actual time they are gonna put it on the ramps, then you just drive it in and they do the test straight away, maybe not so easy for big garages, but that helps and the engine is nice and warm. reb78
Also, put a new air filter in as a clogged up one will have bad effects on emmisions.
statler
Cheers fella, Followed all your advice and then gave it a proper ragging, drove it straight onto the ramp and it walked it! EGR coming back off tomorrow weather permitting!
