RichardAllen
This must be a really easy one, but I have not found anything with a quick search. Does anyone have a neat dodge for inspecting disc brake pad thickness without taking the wheels off ? I have a 300TDi 90 on alloys, so the calipers are well buried within the wheels. I think previously I have always taken the wheels off, but would like to able to do a good thickness check in the drive or at a campsite, without going to all that hassle. All help gratefully received. Regards Richard
western
small diameter inspection [dentist] mirror would help you check the pads for wear.

smokinv8
No quick tips Im afraid from me, just have to keep checking them especially if you drive offroad as I find I go through 2 sets of rear pads to 1 set of fronts on my 90. Always have spares in my garage.
Escape
As a quick check I use my finger to reach the pads and feel how much is left. How easy this is, depends on the wheels and the position of the spokes vs the caliper. You can only check the outside pads though, so when in doubt, do take off the wheel. With the car on a lift, you can sometimes see the pads by shining a torch at just the right angle.
