white90
one of these: LandRover R380 Gearbox Filler Plug Socket -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item Code: DF472 Shipping Costs Print this page Tell a friend Ask us a Question This Torx insert and 1/2' drive integral Socket is essential for removing the Gearbox Filler Plug on Land Rover’s R380 5 speed manual gearbox as fitted to Defender’s, Discoverys and Range Rovers. £3.40 (£3.99 inc.VAT) Quantity Required -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Telephone orders welcome: 0845 125 9407 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LandRover R380 Gearbox Filler Plug Socket If you have a Defender, Discovery or Range Rover fitted with an R380 5 speed manual gearbox (on R380 5 speed boxes reverse gear is below 5th gear) then you should replace the Fluid within every 24,000 miles. However you’ll need this Torx insert and integral Socket to undo the filler plug since it is a special Torx fitting. This tool is a compact 55mm overall length to permit easy access in the confined space between chassis rail and gearbox. It can be used also with a Torque Wrench to ensure that the Filler plug is not overtightened when refitting. The socket is manufactured from hardened and tempered Chrome Vanadium Steel and fitted with an S2 Silicon Steel Torx Bit.

western
IIRC my T55 torx bit came from Halfords. Difflock sell them, www.difflock.com in the top drop menu find 'gearbox & propellor shafts' click 'go' then scroll down to the 19th item Edited July 19, 2006 by western
landrover598
I just use an allen key, can't remember what size but 8mm sounds familiar Always worked and never had a problem with it If it's a bit tight, just pop a length of small pipe over the end of the allen key
