Half Orange
My airbox is completely bent and battered. So much so that the airfilters no longer filter as air can pass right round them due to the distorted box. Has anyone fitted a filter direct on the U bend, or the Stromberg carb mouth, negating the need for the airbox? Cheers, Jim
FridgeFreezer
Many do although I don't like 'em, for starters they are rather vulnerable to any water that may splash up. My vote would be the 110 V8 air box and filter - 'kin massive filter and the elements are cheap and off-the-shelf. Pick the air boxes up for pennies at Sodbury from people who have "upgraded" to blingy ones.
Half Orange
Good idea, I have yet to see the airbox on eBay or anywhere else. I'll hunt for a 110 item ands see what is what. Many thanks.
FridgeFreezer
Nige's air box started life as a standard one of these, obviously now it's been uprated and capable of withstanding a nuclear hit Piccies here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=6634
Half Orange
CRIKEY! That is serious HD stuff. Very nice indeed, but will not suit my carb setup, and I have NO fabbing skills, unlike Nige who seems to be able to make pretty much anything he wants. Damn him. ;o)

FridgeFreezer
You don't need fabbing skills, you just need some flexi hose in fact you might even be able to buy the bits from the 110 to join it all together too, they were V8 carbed so can't be massively different. Half Orange
Gonna have to get creative as the prices I have seen so far for new OEM air cleaner housings are over £250!!!!

Half Orange
Nige, many thanks mate, but my V8 is on carbs and has two elbows to a filter on each end. Not sure how I could use some hose to make a Y piece to join the two carb elbows to the inlet on your old box. Many thanks for the very kind offer though. That picture had me really worried. I was thinking, "he has forgotten to put the HT leads on the dizzy! Then I noticed the leads all terminate on that "black box". You running a megasquirt on there?? Enclosed piccy, this shows the air box from a V8 90, which as std has 2x carbs ! I probably have most of this in the shed, need to go have a lookie, but fairly certain I have most of it ? If your interested then I can shove the whole lot in a big box and post to you for P&P and a drink on top ? Nige

MarkieB
Jim, I'm looking for the ovalish metal plates that fix to the back of the air filter elements with a butterfly nut, holding the elements in place; in case you're ditching yours could I prevail on you for them? cheers

istruggle2gate11
Another option is ITG air filters, you can see the idea on the picture below (picture was taken showing new tubular wing build on my old series 1) Standard ITG filters, with a aluminium backplate (homemade, just traced around the filter) tigged onto the standard rangie elbows.
