zim Posted July 18, 2011 Share Posted July 18, 2011 Morning, As a hobby i seem to bend steering arms either that or my winch man is blind I'm sick of buying them, so since my recent aquisition (colchester student) i'm going to make some instead. Si Cheapest i have found was just over £100 for "As New, surplus stock" 11/16 16tpi UNS tap. Not cheap Buggers know its important! mickeyw Posted July 19, 2011 Share Posted July 19, 2011 UNS is Unified Standard, or Special, as opposed to fine or coarse. It is often specified for tubing applications, and is particularly to do with the tolerances used with it. The 11/16" size does not feature in the coarse or fine series. It has 11/16" dia and 16 TPI, the thread form is Unified; and that is the same whatever the pitch. So the UNS designation is correct, not UNF.
