Frax
Hi all found this thing on the passenger’s side front wing just behind the skin and secured to the inner wing. Do you know what it is and does? Regards Frax.
Bigbananafeet
I'd say that's a resistor. No idea what it's doing, definitely not standard.
CwazyWabbit
Looks like a high power resistor. Any chance of a close up of the writing ? Any idea where the wires went?
western
bolted to the rear vertical part of the inner wing outboard of the brake servo, it's the resistor unit for the headlight dim dip system. it looks like this bit in the scan below the heater blower motor resistor is inside the heater case under where the wiring goes in. chadler
I seem to remember that these were being sold on ebay to replace burnt out heater fan motor resistors. It looks similar to one I had on my 90. Often the second fan speed setting resistor burns out, and this is a replacement/upgrade. EDIT, and having just seen ralph's post he could also be right.... if the wires appear to be connected to the lights then its Dim/Dip, if they go back to the dash area then its the heater motor. Same resistor is used for both aftermarket applications.
Frax
For the life of me I can not remember what it was connected to. Wish I did as I would like to know what to plug it into or do I need it. It looks like an original part. Frax
Frax
Got there before me, so it is for the dim dip Ralf so I will need it, I take it that there is only one which does both sides as I cant remember seeing one on the other side. Thank you for all your help. Frax
western
only one required, it reduces the output of dip beam when sidelights are on with engine running, to give a dim dip light. dim dip is no longer required in UK, so you can remove the system completely or keep it fitted & working.. Frax
Thanks Ralf, think I will keep it if I can find what it plugs into when I get to that stage. Frax
western
Should be a matching plug in the main loom, at the dash end it needs the pink relay that lives behind the instrument pack. I'll dig out the RAVE sheets in a while. as promised here's the RAVE elect info for dim dip
Mo Murphy
Yup, it's the dim/dip resistor. Mo
Frax
Thanks again Ralf - I will have a look for the relay, if it there I will find it as the dash is out again. Hi Mo, I am still at it. Frax
western
happy to help, it actually lives in the front right corner, behind the 3 switch panel to right of steering column.
Frax
Just had a look Ralf and the pink relay is there so hopefully it will all be good when I get the wing painted and back on. Thanks again. Frax
western
OK, no bits to buy, that's a bonus, hope the wiring is all good & the relay/resistor are in working order.
