rocky
Hi , A friend has a td5 which will not start unless easystart has been squirted into the intake, then it will run normally. Any pointers greatly appreciated. Regards, rocky
landy andy.
Can you hear the fuel pump running when the ignition is on? Andy
Tanuki
Get it to someone who has the ability to probe the ECU and read the error-codes. For at least the last decade, cars are only too happy to tell you what the problem is. OK, this is a mindwarp for the older-generation of mechanics, but it really can save hassle [and unnecessary speculative replacement-of-parts] once you embrwce the idea. If your mechanic's not got a decent code-reader and laptop - well, find someone who does! --Tanuki "The last Tormentor General was one Thomas Bainbridge, appointed to the post by Oliver Cromwell in 1642. With his creative punishments he played a major part in the Massacre of Drogheda in 1649 but on the restoration of the Monarchy in 1661 Bainbridge was arrested, found guilty of high treason, and executed by being lowered head-first into a barrel of toads." rocky
Hi, thanks for the replies, the garage put a tester on to the computer but no fault came up. The only thing I can think of is a problem with the fuel itself. Apparently it was fueled up at Morrisons and refused to start a short time after. There was just under a 1/4 of a tank of fuel in before filling. rocky
Landy-Novice
ages ago, iirc Morrison's had a problem with a dangerous levels of something, may of been octant?? which maybe be back BUT thats the last thong to blame! have you checked fuel filter? maybe full of tom tit! what about the lines? i think it need pressure, so if any are weepy, cracked etc etc that could be the cause, what about the injectors? pull 'em out to see if the working. what about just a general service? hth

GL88
When you say 'run normally' do you mean it will run but produces vast clouds of white smoke and has no power? If so then it probably has petrol in the tank instead of diesel. If you mean it has trouble starting on cold mornings then something may be amiss with the pre-heaters (glow plugs) - the TD5 has 4 despite having 5 cylinders and at most temperatures above zero they will normally start without pre-heat but may be a bit rough.
