Anderzander
Would I be able to drill and tap a 10 spline diff casing to put a filler in it as per the old Range Rovers ? I've been looking for a pair of old Range Rover diffs to go in my series - but non have appeared that aren't exorbitantly priced or at the other end of the country.. western
just use the FILL/Level plug on the diff domed cover, as on any 90/110,Discovery, it automatically sets the oil level by letting excess run out & once the oil level is below the bottom of the fill/level plug it's set correctly. Orgasmic Farmer
I assume that the series diff pan doesn't have a fill plug or the question wouldn't have been asked. One solution would be to buy a strengthened diff pan (several available) and weld it on. This will then provide you with a fill plug like the post series vehicles. But, since it is possibel to drill and tap a diff to fit an ARB locker (albeit a small hole) I imagine it would be perfectly feasible to drill and tap the housing to take a fill plug. western
one of these maybe a easier option http://www.jojas.co.uk/diff_pan_replacement.htm http://www.steve-parker.co.uk/axlediffpan.php?PHPSESSID=24dc59cc19bf3ef829d0b64fed0532a3
Anderzander
Thanks guys - the series 1 axles are the original ones for the vehicle with matching numbers for 1951 - so whilst I want to change the gearing I don't want to hack them up... Hybrid_From_Hell
yes is the answer did it one I had - tricky to do tho I think I may have some imperial early diff casings with filler plugs in them in you want in 4.7 and 3.54 ratios al 10 spline haven't dismantled them as yet as in rather good cond - pm me if interested Nige
Mr Ian
Hi Technically no problem there is a 'land' area on the 3.54 in the correct place, physically a major job, diff out and strip, hold in a vertical mill/drill drill and tap 1/2" bsp, re-assemble diff and reinstall. If you really want to do it next diff rebuild send the case to us and we will d/t for you. Regards and good luck Ian Ashcroft
