greenstream
Hi Ive got an front axle of 97 Disco RHD. I will be fiting it to a LHD car and my question is which swivelpinhousing will fit ? Are they the same. I will be keeping the original swivelball from the Disco and have one older swivelpinhousing laying around and was hopeing to use it. landroversforever
I'm sure they are identical both sides . This is assuming the older one you have is also one with bearings top and bottom?
greenstream
Just checked the one I've got and I believe it's stamped with HRC2378 ? But cant find this anywhere on the web ? Will this old swivelpin housing fit and will the calibers line up ? Yes it might be easy sourcing a complete axle, but the one I've got is in very good condition. landroversforever
Part no's mean nothing to me sorry The calipers should line up fine as they are attached to the swivel housings .
greenstream
Landroversforever I do believe that we are talking of two different parts. The swivelhousing i believe is the round part bolted to the axle. The swivelpinhousing is the outer part thats fitted to the swivelhouse and to which the stub is fitted. This is not identical form side to side as the arms for the steering and trackrod is part of this (the swivelpinhousing) hence the need for a LHD-unit for my RHD-axle. western
swivel housing is the outer part that moves when you steer & has the swivel pins/bearings fitted to it . the part attached to the axle case is the swivel ball [chromed or teflon coated] http://www.numcat.ru/landrover/p/32/45219 FTC5297
Les Henson
Disco axle will be taper roller bearing, top and bottom. Swivel ball is the 'ball' that's bolted to the axle tube. Swivel housing is the cast iron 'cup' that the steering, etc, connects to. Ball has to match housing, and vise-versa. Les.
landroversforever
Sorry Greenstream, I was barking up the wrong tree Ignore me!
greenstream
So if my swivel pin housing has the room for taper roller bearing then it will match ? Or am I putting words in your mouth ?
Team Idris
Ive got an front axle of 97 Disco RHD. I will be fiting it to a LHD car and my question is which swivelpinhousing will fit ? As far as I can tell its the same part right through, except that early ones had one arm or two arms depending on RHD or LHD. The later axels on 90's had two-arm swivel housings on both sides. I guess it saved on casting patterns? So re-shimming the king pins should be the only major task? But this is landrover, so I wouldn't trust anything untill it was on the bench in front of me
