Strange But true.

Here goes then.I replaced thermostate replace temp sender , replace temp gauge, BUT when I put the ignison on the temp gauage goes up to 1/2 way before the engine is started, then as the thing get's warm reads into the red.

I have put a new wire from the back of the gauge to the sender & still no joy. So any ideas/clues would be great.

rubbish sender or bad earth on the gauge.

i would suggest a badly matched sender to guage, they must both be designed for each other.

if not this then try replacing the cable as it may have too much resistance or too little if there should be an extra resistor in the circuit.

i changed my guages to td5 ones and had to find the correct sender to match the guages as there were two types apparently, then still had to replace the cable as it was producing too much resistance.

I had the exact same problem and it was easily resolved by ensuring a good earth on the gauge as Vulcan Bomber suggests

Please tell us which engine

temp sender part number & temp gauge part number,

then I should be able to give you a sender/gauge combination that works.

have you cleaned the bunch of black earth wires next to the brake servo,clutch master cylinder on the engine side of the bulkhead, these earth the gauges amongst other items.

lady's & Gent's After reading the comments on here & doing more investigations I found that the earth wire on the gauge had came out of the connector

so new bit or wire & connector tried it & HAPPY DAZ'S it worked as it shoud. so just got to give it a blow out to see if it stay's in the white & not go into the red,( will keep you All posted) Many Thanks for the help.

And remember that the standard LR gauge isn't worth the paper its written on. Fit a VDO gauge and sender if you want to know what is going on down there.
