The Non Leaking Leaky Fuel Tank

Recommended Posts

We noticed a diesel leak from the tank area last week after a fill up so I immediately emptied out 20l into a jerrycan, the leak eventually subsided. It appeared to be coming from the seam at the rear of the tank. I checked the out and in pipes at the top of the tank after returning from a drive just to rule them out.

I ordered a new one and removed the old one in my days off, expecting to fit the new one in my next days off. We filled the old one with water just to get a decent look at the site of the leak, but we cannot see any sign of a £$**? leak !

I am starting to think it must have been where the filler hose meets the tank !

Diesel will leak where water will not so you may not find the leak with water. My old 90 had a tank like that and it too leaked - from somewhere between the bottom of the tank and the cradle attached where water sits and festers but the eye of man cannot reach. Dig deep, buy a new one and waste your energy on something else! ;)
