Hybrid_From_Hell
Hmm Anyone here know the answer ? I have a steel assembly which I have tigged in some Stainless, and was thinking of getting it passivated (the Gold colour process) whats going to be the outcome on steel and stainless if shoved in the passivation tank ? simonr
You can plate zinc onto almost anything including stainless. However, with Stainless it doesn't adhere very well. Generally, where stainless needs to be zinc plated (generally on fasteners used in contact with Aluminium), the stainless is given a very thin Nickle coating first to give the adhesion. Bowie69
I'm guessing this is just more bling for your engine bay then
brighouse shed
nigel i assume you have used something like a 408 wire which being ferritic will passivate but as simon says not easily. if you used one of the duplex rods 2205 etc then again easier. My only concern would be the heat affected zone which may pit during passivation so as simon suggested a light coating first just of the s/s and weld haz would be good
