Wanstead Posted June 25, 2012 Share Posted June 25, 2012 I'm new to 4x4's and just recently bought a 2006 2.0ltr diesel Freelander Sport. The oil was changed about 9mth / 3,000 miles ago but is extremely black - Is this normal and what is the recommended interval for oil changes ? My rule of thumb is to change the oil at least every 12 months or 6,000 miles, and if you;re in the slightest doubt go ahead and change it - it only takes half an hour or so. FridgeFreezer Posted June 26, 2012 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Guess yours is the TD4 then. Well worth changing the crank vent (PCV) filter too before it induces turbo-death. Oil change is easy BUT expensive as the recommended oil is fully-synthetic 5W40 if memory serves (definitely fully-synth though). This was on offer at Halfords last week at half price, not sure if the deal is still going on, I bought 8 litres of Castrol for £35. Dorsetfreelander Posted July 1, 2012 Share Posted July 1, 2012 If you have a branch of Mole Valley Farmers near, you should check out their Total Oils I have bought 5 litres of 5/30 Quartz 9000 fully synthetic for £20 and Quartz 7000 10/30 for £15.50. zimaria Posted July 8, 2012 Share Posted July 8, 2012 FridgeFreezer, The TD4 mentioned in this post is a 2006 model similar to mine. I have downloaded the RAVE manual esp. CD1 (Discovery II & Freelander 1) but it appears that this version does not cover the 2006 model and probably goes upto 2003.
