disco_al
Help! The outlet on my vac pump has snapped off, can it be repaired or replaced?
western
depending on where the break is, it might be possible to get it welded back on , the parts list doesn't give any parts just a complete vac pump http://lrcat.com/#31/4/53200
disco_al
right at the point where it joins the body was thinking of drilling the remains out and maybe finding a threaded adaptor of some sort to put in there (after tapping the hole of course). something like an air line hose tail
western
might work, if the remaining alloy is thick enough to accept a thread.
disco_al
it's right at the housing of the vac pump, i'll try and get a pic next time i'm up there fiddling
GW8IZR
There isn't much material to tap near the outlet but with care you might be able to fit a 1/2" bsp fitting. Be careful and think of the potential headlines ..... LR owner mows down bus queue after bodged repair... I would ask around here for one that's been swapped due to leaking oil, drill out the rivets and screw the 'new' end cap on to the good body. There again they are so cheap I'd probably just replace
western
we'r talking 300tdi vacuum pump here not 200tdi, I think the broken bit is the pipe connection on the side, not the on the top cover, isn't there one connection only. there is on my 200tdi vac pump. GW8IZR
Yes but there isn't much material once the pipe outlet is gone, what I meant was try to get a s/h leaky unit and swap the good end cap and gasket over to the old none broken unit. Or just buy new :-)
CwazyWabbit
Looking at a few pictures on ebay the spigot seems to be screwed in anyway .... so maybe it's just a case of unscrewing the remains of the broken one and replacing it? Certainly cheaper than 60 quid....
GW8IZR
I've a couple here and the pipe fitting is part of the casting but different manufacturer maybe use a screw in fitting. Not sure why they would add to the cost by doing so.
CwazyWabbit
Fair enough Paul, trust me to have only clicked on the pictures with the screw in ones.
GW8IZR
The screw in ones might be better made overall than the cheapo ones here taken off 'cos they leak :-)
