TD5 - Main gearbox lever gaiter replacement

i hope that this is not considered too silly and basic a question!

I have just ordered a new gaiter for the main gearbox lever on my TD5.

How is the gearlever knob fixed to the lever, please?

For example, threaded, splined, lock not, etc.

The existing gaiter fits right up tight beneath the gearlever knob and I can't see how it is attached, I'm afraid.

As ever, thank you for any help.

Thank you all for your advice.

I was amused by your second link, Western.

It appears to be in Russian!

I found you to be correct, Off Road Toad, the gearknob is screwed on.

In the event, I ordered a new gaiter from Rimmer Bros.

It clearly being a non-safety critical item I went for an after-market item, at about half the price of a genuine LR part, it turned out to be a Britpart and perfectly acceptable.

I determined before ordering that the gaiter came with the square injection moulded base incorporating clips as I, too, wondered how easy it would be to glue the base to the gaiter.

The rubber 'o' ring which holds the gaiter to the gearknob (got at by unclipping the base of the gaiter and turning the gaiter inside-out) was in good condition and was able to be used again, had it not been a small cable tie would have sufficed.

Overall, it turned out to be what must be the most simple of all Discovery 2 tasks!!
