where to buy handbrake cable.

Hi Guys

Recently had MOT and they found I needed rear end exhaust.

I purchased a Britpart exhaust and it did not fit. I posted on here for advice and what I got was that some of you feel Britpart are none too good on quality and fit. To save you looking at my other posting I had to cut off and move the hanger bracket to the correct position.

So, my post this time is :-

Where should I buy my replacement handbrake cable? LR dealer just quoted me £81 plus vat for a genuine LR replacement, whereas my local Britpart supplier said £24, so some difference. But we are talking brakes here, not window winder handle, so I don't want to buy rubbish or an ill fitting part.

Is the Britpart cable OK, is there a better alternative or is there a quality difference for genuine LR part to justify cost difference?

Thanks.

Oh out of interest. After exhaust done, put back for re test, went to collect from MOT station, guy said, All done mate, passed this time, but your handbrake cable is broken. It passed MOT OK but as we reversed it off the ramp and parked it up the cable snapped.

You don't say where you are in the world, so no-one can point you to a local supplier, which should always be your first choice if one is available. It allows you to touch and feel the goods, plus the counter hand knows that if the part is not good, you will be back to give him a hard time.

Several times I've seen Barry 4x4 be given credit for selecting and supplying the 'best' parts, so I'd ask them for a quote.

I've no connection with them, as I use a local supplier, taking the risk of making my own judgement, and coping with the consequences.

Regards.

Have a look at lrdirect.com and lrseries.com Both give you a choice of manufacturers for a given p/n. However you do have to know the p/n! Matt

+ one. both have given good service.

Pity abut the poo web site though, 'updating' is no excuse.

I replaced mine a year ago and used genuine. Fitted perfectly (as it should) and have not had to adjust the handbrake since. Anecdotal stories suggest cheaper makes stretch !!

Check the mail order prices, seems cheaper than your quote depending on your vehicle, vin.
