bishbosh
Ok so my black and decker powerfile has died and I am thinking of replacing it with an air powered version. Any recommendations out there?
GW8IZR
My Makita electric file gets more use than my air powered - it seems to be working well and is comfortable to use for long periods.
landroversforever
Interested to hear the recommendations as well... my powerfile is still going strong. but I've thought about an air one now I have a decent compressor.
zardos
I looked at a powerfile but I went with a cheap from the bay Neilsen branded one and used it lots with no problems. The main reason for going air was the are much smaller than the powerfile so easier to get in to places that a sanding flat wheel on a small grinder cannot get, especially as you can adjust the angle of the finger. One downside is that it can get quite colder to hold with prolonged use.
GW8IZR
All my air tools chill with use and I do find it uncomfortable... Yeah yeah use your gloves but it's a downside, my cheapo Lidl DA sander doesn't though. The belt on the air file is a bit short so it wears a bit too quickly but agree access is better. Rips the stud of recalcitrant front shocks in just a few seconds though
zardos
If you want a longer / larger belt then you can get a 20mm x 520mm version instead of the 10mm x 330mm (black and decker is 13mm x 455mm) (probably still has better access than the power file)
GW8IZR
The Makita is 9 x 535 but a 13mm arm is an option, anyway op wants air so it's just for info. http://www.axminster.co.uk/makita-9032-filing-sander
