Strange vibration

Hi I have a 300tdi auto and recently at certain speeds there is a droning vibration when i lift off the throttle but when under power it's fine

the props are ok with no play and I can't find anything loose

also when almost coming to a halt there's a few clunky cracky sounds

is this likely to be the flex plate

Thanks

Check the bushes on both axles. ... could be the front hockey stick bushes allowing the axle to rotate as you brake to a halt making the diff angle change. ....you'd be surprised how much they can move even if in good condition! !

As per Disco-Ron's comment, replace the standard radius arm bushes with Range Rover Classic items - double core and stiffer. Oh, and start listening to the Beach Boys while you're driving - that way you get some "Good Vibrations" :hysterical:

It seems to be the viscous fan which is quite worn it must of been vibrating at certain revs

I have taken it off for now and the bad vibration has gone

what is a good replacement viscous unit as britpart/bearmach/allmakes all seem about the same price so I'm sure they are all made by the same manufacturer

An Electric fan perhaps as it is not needed all the time.

Our 96 auto has not had a fan on for years. I did fit an electric fan made from an air conditioner fan and manually switched on in case it should need some thing, but I have never had to use it. I think they only need a fan if stuck in very heavy traffice on a very hot day, provided the cooling system is in good order of course.

I did have a droning sort of vibration once that I could not seem to cure. I eventually found the exhaust downpipe had a number of very small holes where it had been welded along the length fo form a tube. Not big enough to make a blowing exhaust sound, but just enough to make a buzzing droning sound at certain speeds.
