Disco 2 v8 auto gearbox cooler pipe replacement

Morning all, urgent help please. So spectacular chaos caused on the A64 from York to Leeds last week, billowing smoke and rolling road recovery by the police when my D2 died at 70mph in lane 2. Turns out all the fuss was over the oil cooler pipe from autobox which had split at the rubber at the very front squirting ATF EVERYWHERE!

Issue now is I cannot find a replacement pipe. I can fine them for the TD5 and the 300Tdi and the Disco 1 v8, but nothing for the Disco 2 v8. Any assistance?? I am guessing the best fit might be the Disco 1 v8 as the routing is more likely to be different on the TD5 or 300Tdi.

Tried all the normal online places I know of Paddocks, John Craddock, Island 4x4 etc. Local specialists Adventure 4x4, Farnells and FourPlus4 but nothing.

Help please!!

Phil

The pipes you're looking for are UBP101140 and UBP100990.

If those are not available, I'd look into the Bosch P38 hoses, they're a different part number (UBP101050 and UBP101040), but should be fairly similar I think.

Otherwise have some made at a hydraulic shop.

Thanks!! I have done various searches and it seems the UBP101140 have been superseded by UBP101141. I have (I think) found this part on John Craddock, brit-car and RimmerBros sites, all for around £100 inc VAT. However after a bit more digging I found the link below, anyone used this company Myton automotive?

http://www.mytonautomotive.com/product_details/Pipe/0/347483/?make=&model=

I have never heard of them, and the price seems to be £34!!! It does say after market, but no idea if the others available are any different!

Annoyingly Myton automotive do not seem to have the UBP100990 online. I have contacted them to see if they have it, but interested to hear any feedback in the meantime!

If the rubber split could you not remove the pipe and get a hydraulic hose place to fit a new section?

Thanks for the good suggestion, might be the option, but keen to replace with a similar part first. Might be considerably less expensive though!!

This happened to me during the year. Are the steel sections of your pipes in good condition? Mine were perfect and call me cheap but I'd consider it wasteful in this disposable culture we're living in to not make the simple repair to something that's perfectly serviceable.

I can't say for sure on the V8 but I replaced my Td5 split pipe on the N/S of the car with standard high temp hydraulic hose from a hydraulic specialist, with their advisement. It was 1/2" I.D. iirc but I can guarantee you it'll be an off the shelf size at any decent hydraulic or farmers suppliers. As far as I can make out the N/S pipe is the hot side, so the O/S return should be in much better condition. Certainly if you read around any of the stories of the swages letting go or the pipe splitting it's usually the N/S so yours is a new one to me. Specifically the swage on the engine side seems to be the most common one, which again would be the hottest. As per my marine fitting training I used two stainless jubilee clips at each end (so 4 No. total per pipe), one each side of the rib on the steel pipes, each pair opposing each other. If you pry the remaining swages off with a flathead screw driver you'll probably find it's none too soon. Mine came off way to easily. The jubilee'd joints will be more reliable than the swaged affair from the factory and can be checked. It cost me €16 for enough pipe for both sides, twice, and the clips.

On a side note if it sprayed with the same trajectory as mine did the bottom N/S of your rad will be full of ATF. I was happy enough to have the chassis et al nicely rust proofed for free, but I'd advise you pull the rad and clean it. I haven't yet and a few months later I still get that hot oil smell, sometimes even in the cab. The fan will continue to flick a fine film of ATF over everything in the vicinity so really best to nip the clean up right in the bud. hth.

Thanks Shackleton. Today I dropped the pipe off with a hydraulic specialist who seemed happy to help and is contacting me in the morning if it has all worked He quoted £30 for the one, quite happy as haven't the time to sort myself, and that is a 70% saving on the new part!

I did find this on eBay which I think would do the job, with the two jubilee clip approach at either end. Thought I would post this in case anyone else has a similar issue.

I will update once the final resolution has been decided.
