Mikeing
Hi chaps The front prop on my auto td5 is knackered. I wanted to buy complete unit rather than fitting new ujs. Why is the front prop shaft for the automatic so expensive- almost £400. Can I fit a manual front prop shaft ?! £180ish What's the difference between the two? Cheers
BogMonster
I think the auto one is skinnier to miss the gearbox (from memory - could be wrong!) I don't know how it would work for motorway speeds as road speeds here are lower, but we always used to fit 300Tdi Defender front props to the Td5 Discoverys, which are much cheaper, no double cardan joint but never noted any vibration problems. It may be different at higher speeds.
teabag
Good question, but with pricing an item it would be better to ask the seller than a user.
Nigelw
Get part numbers and google image both, also dimensions are worth googling too, there is usually a good reason. I know a front prop for a 3.9 D1 is expensive due to it being a skinny solid bar as opposed a tubular effort.
Bowie69
The skinny one was fitted to RRC to clear the catalytic converters.... Guess D1 had same issue.
hangover
RRC with TF727 used a solid shaft also.
